About Me & This Blog
About Me
I’m a young guy in my late 20s who tries to squeeze as much good living out of life as possible. I enjoy a vibrant and successful career in information technology at Steelcase, the largest office furniture company in the world. I work as an applications engineer, which means I design and develop software solutions for the company, mostly relating to the fields of business intelligence (BI) and commissions and incentives. Steelcase is a big SAP shop and I’ve come to love the power and integration of such an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. I also play the role of web developer as a second career and receive lots of satisfaction in doing so for a number of clients. It’s a struggle to find the time for moonlighting but I manage to keep my customers happy most of the time.
Moving on to marital status, I was married in 2005 to my beautiful wife Kellie (whom I dated all through college). We enjoy traveling together and the many other benefits of married life. In 2007, we bought a lovely condo where we appreciate not only the freedom of condo living but also the neighborhood and pond setting upon which our home is situated. We enjoy entertaining friends and family and living well in our first foray into the housing market. I also have a number of hobbies that compete with the careers mentioned above and time allocated for sleep. Like any guy, I’m an auto enthusiast and currently own a 2001 Audi TT 225 that has a few enhancements. I also own a 2002 Buell Blast that has brought much joy to my life over the past few years. Athletics are important to me too, which started with body building in high school and has led more recently to running, biking, swimming, and hence triathlons. For biking, I own a 2008 Jamis Ventura Comp and am looking into purchasing a commuting bike for next year. It’s about being healthy, environmentally friendly, and escaping reliance on the internal combustion engine – not that I won’t still enjoy a spirited drive when I want to! Moving on: video games, and really electronics in general, have always been a passion of mine: just take a look at my movie room downstairs. Lastly, I play guitar on occasion and enjoy great music – but who doesn’t?
I look forward to starting a family with Kellie sometime in the future but in the mean time there is plenty with which to keep busy. Besides, we’re so busy already, how could we find time for kids now anyway?
About This Blog
After four or five failed attempts at creating my own version of the blog, I have succumb to defeat. Having always disliked the typical blog, wherein some lonely individual shares anything and everything that happens throughout each and everyday, I set out to build my own way of sharing a few things I found important. I was never, however, able to stick with producing pure content because of my enduring need to add extra functionality into the software I was building in parallel – namely my own version of custom blogging software. In the end, I abandoned one effort after another and almost swore off this editorial outlet completely.
Then one day it dawned on me that my difficulties with blogging were purely self-induced and that seemed a silly and unbecoming reason to deprive those few out there who might find something I write worthwhile (to read). That epiphany changed me.
This is where I’m starting now, with what is hopefully my final attempt at finding peace with blogging. As I find the time, I will likely add some of my better content from blogs past to facilitate the continued laughter at my expense. Yes, there are some funny stories in my past which I hope you will enjoy.
For those curious about the name ‘No Time to Chat’ and how I chose it, read on. Those who know me best know that my biggest complaint is the lack of time during the day in which to get everything done. I know: everyone receives the same 24 hours and we all deal with this constraint as best as we are able. Perhaps I don’t deal with it very well because I find myself involved and committed with all sorts of activities and this leaves me with little time to enjoy the company of my friends and family. Conscious of this imbalance, I zealously work to create more efficiency in my processes and life yet find only that I’ve signed on to additional commitments and responsibilities in the process. It is a never-ending battle.
So when I find myself talking with friends and family, there is always this nagging voice in the back of my mind shouting of schedules and deadlines to be met, pressuring me always to say those words: ‘Nice to see you but I have no time to chat…’ The few times that I do find time to converse (sitting in a hotel room between chapters of study or taking a snack break at work), the people with whom I wish most to speak aren’t around. This blog is a collection of those things I’d say.
